2025 Hawaii Quick Chess Championship
Date: Saturday, May 10th, 2025,
Place: Washington Middle School cafeteria, 1633 S King St. Honolulu, HI. 96826
Time: Morning K-12 Scholastic Section 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. Afternoon Open (KIDS & ADULTS WELCOME) 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Prizes: Morning K-12 Scholastic Section: trophy for each grade level champion. Afternoon Open: Trophy to the top Open Championship winner plus CASH PRIZES. All ratings and ages will play in one large afternoon section, but the cash prizes will be given out based on the best scores in rating classes. That way everyone has a good chance of winning money! The prize rating classes are: Open, U2000, U1800, U1600, U1400, U1200, U1000, U800, U600, U400, Unrated. Prize rating will be based on a player's USCF Quick rating. Cash prize amounts will be based on participation numbers, so please, spread the word! The more players we have, the higher the cash prizes will be. Section prizes may be combined at HCF discretion, especially if sections are not large enough to accommodate the advertised quantity of class prizes.
Tie Breaks: K-12 Morning section: If players are tied after 7 rounds, in order to have a clear individual champion, blitz game play-offs will be used to determine the winner. Afternoon Open: cash prizes will be split evenly among rating class winners with tied scores.
Swiss Pairing System: 7-rounds in the K-12 morning, 7-rounds in the Afternoon Open. Non-elimination, quick-rated by the USCF. Rounds 1 and 2 will use "accelerated" pairing.
Time Control: Game in 10 minutes with a 5-second increment (G/10 +5). (Clocks and chess sets provided at the event.)
Chess Notation: No chess notation is required for this tournament.
Supervision: On-site supervision by a coach, parent or designated guardian is required for all players aged 13 and under
Team Pairings: This is not a team event. Everybody will play everybody.
Byes: Any player may have up to two, ½-point byes, if requested before 8:45 a.m.
