Additional Considerations:
- Results will be submitted to USCF Monthly
- A player joining late in the year may be assessed additional “bye points” based on their rating level comparable to the section distribution to attempt fair and equitable pairing.
- Players will be permitted to remain in the Section their USChess rating qualifies them for at the time of registration until their published rating no longer allows (up to Round 7).
- If players are bumped up into the OPEN division, their prior point total in the League will carry over with them until the conclusion of League play (but only up to Round 7).
- If a player in the U1400 achieves a published rating above 1400 at the start of Round 8, they will be permitted to remain in the U1400 for the remainder of the year.
CHALLENGE THE “BUMPED UP PLAYER”
- If a player “bumped up” into the OPEN from the U1400 and finishes (after Quick playoffs) in a place with a cash prize… certain “Original OPEN” players can challenge the “bumped up” player.
This challenge is only possible if the “Original OPEN” player finishes within 1.0 point beneath the “bumped up” player (in final standings, pre-playoff) AND has either defeated OR did not have a chance to play against this “bumped up” cash prize winner during regular league play.
The “Original OPEN” player will have the right to challenge the “bumped up” cash prize winner to an 11th Round G/90+30 game.
If the “Original OPEN” player wins the 11th Round game, the “bumped up” player must then split their prize money 50%-50% with the “Original OPEN” challenger. The 50% won by the challenger will be split evenly with any other players finishing in a place between them & the “bumped up” player.
If the “Original OPEN” player draws the 11th Round game, the “bumped up” player must split their prize money 75%-25% with the 25% being split evenly with any other “Original OPEN” players finishing in a place between the “Original OPEN” challenger and “bumped up” player.”
For Example:
Beth “bumps up” to the OPEN in early rounds.
Clayton & Sophia are “Original OPEN” players.
Clayton defeated (or didn’t get to play) Beth, while Sophia lost to (or drew with) Beth in their regular OPEN league games.
End of the year, Beth has 8.0 points in 2nd place. Sophia has 7.5 points in 3rd place and Clayton has 7.0 points in 4th place.
Clayton has the right to challenge Beth to an 11th Round Game (Sophia does NOT have that right).
If Clayton wins the 11th Round game, he will split 50% of Beth’s cash winnings with Sophia and himself.
If Clayton draws the 11th Round Game, he will split 25% of Beth’s cash winnings with Sophia and himself.
